…when two opposite points of view are expressed with equal intensity, the truth does not necessarily lie exactly halfway between them. It is possible for one side to be simply wrong.” – Richard Dawkins

Jeff Randall is a frequent volunteer for free-thought organizations, including the Center For Inquiry – DC. Having been blogging since January 2008, he decided that a community of bloggers would be an interesting new experience (or at the very least a fun way to annoy his friends into reading his posts more frequently). In this one singular, specific statement Mr. Dawkins is correct – at least as far as he went with it.

He, of course, discounts the possibility (probability?) the he’s the one who is wrong. 😉

Also, he left out the possibility that, when two opposite points of view are expressed with equal intensity, the truth does not necessarily lie exactly halfway between them. It is possible for both sides to be simply wrong.

I don’t believe that Dawkins discounts the possibility that he is wrong. I’ve heard many times when he says that their is a possibility that god does exists.

He also regularly acknowledges that we don’t know everything about evolution yet, and that some of his current understanding of it, could some day be realized to be mistaken.

I’m curious what subject YOU believe he that there is a high likelihood that he is “possibility (probability?)” the one who is wrong.

You are correct about the fact that both sides being utterly wrong is possible.
One of the hardest things for most people to say is “I don’t know”, but it is also one of the most important things we should say more. Too often people with no clue babble on about subjects they are utterly ignorant of, just because somebody they respect, or some book they believe (but have not read) says something…
